Privacy policy

The explorer provides read-only views of research on wood and optoelectronics value chains. Your account information is kept confidential, is not displayed to other readers, and is not sold or used for advertising.

Who is responsible

Zippy Vision SIA is the website operator and controller of the personal data used to provide access to this site. Our address and privacy contact are below. This notice concerns website use and account access; it is not consent to participate in an interview or other research activity.

What we use and where it comes from

• Your invitation email address, supplied by the inviting research contact or by you; invitation dates, expiry and acceptance/revocation status.
• Your account identifier, email verification status, password hash, account creation and last-login dates, and sign-in session records. We store password hashes rather than readable passwords.
• If you connect an available Google or Microsoft account, its provider identifier and the identity/email fields needed to match it to your invitation. The provider handles its own password; we do not receive it.
• Technical information needed to deliver and protect the service, such as IP address, request/error information and short-lived abuse-prevention counters. If you contact us, we also process the information in that correspondence.

The research views do not let readers upload responses or edit the underlying datasets. Account actions, such as setting a password, still create or update the access records described above. Published research is separate from your account record.

Purposes and legal basis

We use these limited records to invite intended readers, verify access, maintain accounts, send requested service messages and keep confidential research secure. We rely on our legitimate interests under GDPR Article 6(1)(f) in running a secure research-discussion service, balanced against your rights. You may object or decline access. Where a specific legal duty requires processing, Article 6(1)(c) applies to that duty.

Your email and essential access information are needed for an account; without them we cannot provide private access. Connecting Google or Microsoft is optional. We do not use account data for behavioural advertising or research profiling. Automated email/security checks control access; contact us if you need a refusal reviewed.

Confidentiality, recipients and hosting

Access data is available only to authorised operators and service providers where necessary to run, secure or support the site. Other readers cannot see your account details. We may disclose information when lawfully required, and only to the extent necessary.

Amazon Web Services provides hosting, storage and service-email delivery. The application and its main stored account/research data are hosted in Frankfurt, Germany. Service support, email delivery or a provider you choose may involve processing outside the European Economic Area. AWS's data-processing terms include EU Standard Contractual Clauses where applicable; information on safeguards can be requested from the privacy contact. See AWS data-protection information.

If you choose an available identity provider, it also processes sign-in information under its own terms: Google Privacy Policy and Microsoft Privacy Statement. These providers are not contacted merely to display this site's sign-in buttons.

How long we keep access information

We retain account and invitation records while needed for authorised access to this temporary site, and any limited further period needed to resolve a security incident, a request or a legal obligation. We review the need for these records when access ends and when the site closes, and delete or anonymise records no longer needed. Restricted backup copies are included in that review and deletion process. Expiry of an invitation link or sign-in session does not by itself erase its database record.

Cookie lifetimes and browser controls are described in the cookie notice. You may request account closure or ask about the retention criteria applicable to your records.

Your rights

Subject to the applicable conditions, you may request access, correction, erasure or restriction, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and request portability where that right applies. If processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it without affecting earlier lawful processing. Contact us below; we may need proportionate identity verification. We normally respond within one month, with any lawful extension explained.

You may complain to the Latvian Data State Inspectorate or the competent supervisory authority where you live or work or where an alleged infringement occurred. You do not need to contact us first to exercise that right.

Changes and further information

We will update this notice when our handling of access data changes and make material changes clear to affected users. Read more about EU data-protection rights and responsibilities. The site's provisional research status does not reduce your data-protection rights.
